Count Dracula crawling head first down the wall of his castle, his cloak spread like wings, as Jonathan Harker watches from a window
Cover of the 1901 edition (Archibald Constable)

Jonathan Harker, a young English solicitor, travels to a castle in the Carpathian mountains to help a Transylvanian nobleman buy a house in London. The Count is courteous and strange, the doors of the castle are locked, and one night Jonathan sees him crawl face down the castle wall like a lizard. Bram Stoker's 1897 novel is told in diaries, letters and newspaper cuttings.
