A cyclone lifts Dorothy's farmhouse off the Kansas prairie, with Dorothy and her dog Toto inside, and sets it down in the strange land of Oz. To find her way home she follows the road of yellow brick to the Emerald City, joined by a Scarecrow who wants brains, a Tin Woodman who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion. L. Frank Baum's 1900 book is the original of the famous film, and it differs from it in many surprising ways.
